More AFM questions

Checked new AFM. It does not appear to have been opened up, barn door is smooth and springs back, wiring harness is flawless as is the black boot. Contact pins are all ok. As I said, car runs with old AFM. Since I have no shop manuals how do I check to see if new one responds when voltage is applied. Nearest Porsche dealer is 90 miles away and I'd like to know what I'm talking about before I send it back. I suspect it is defective-staying closed when I turn on ignition but I am usually wrong.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?
