Mike's 86 rebuild journey

Hi everyone,
Kinda new to the forum. Check in when I can. Just finished tons of work on my 86 NA 944 and wanted to share a little at a time. Have been doing systems upgrades and rebuilds over the years. Have owned this car since 1987. It's, for the most part, completely stock and being garaged for the past 20 yrs, other than an occasional cruise here and there. I think I enjoy working on it more than driving it. ( well, maybe not)

I'll post a few photos.

Latest upgrade was complete front and rear suspension and brake upgrades.

Nice that you've had such a long history with this car...and that it has continued to inspire you to keep it in such obviously great condition! Congrats!

These cars deserve the very best from us to the extent that this is possible, and its always nice to see such great examples of this along the way...so thank you!

Thanks all,
More progress and work photos to come.

This car is my therapy for the daily grind. I tinker and rebuild it as a hobby. Have gotten to know it well.
I love working on it.
( Except for the infamous clutch job)
That was not fun! As most of you must know.

Been working on and building cars most of my life. Great past time.

Two of my brothers live in cities ... no garage or workshop; they must be going out of their respective gourds right about now.

I've always been grateful that I live in 'burbs and can head out to my garage for some futzing, tinkering, fiddle-farting, mental-health time, but especially now.

best wishes, John

Yes,
went a little overboard but that's just the way I do it. I mean, it was apart! Why not do it right. The spring plates are new, not re-plated. Bushings looked a little tired, so I got the whole assembly for about what I would have paid for aftermarket bushings. I glass beaded all the aluminum parts. It's just nice to reassemble everything when its clean and new.
End result is better.

Yesterday I installed a short shift setup on it. WOW! no more slop in the shifter and the throw is nice and tight. I love it!

Isn't this fun? My wife keeps saying, "When are you going to finish this car"? I keep telling her that its not the finish but the journey and the skills learned that makes it worthwhile. I'm not sure she really gets it yet.

Some people try to turn back their "odometers." Not me. I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

as far as finishing the car........
I don't think I ever will. I have rebuilt just about every system on this 944. Tried to keep it ,for the most part, completely stock. not looking to race. Just want to play and enjoy.
Funny about the car. Treat it right and it will reward you with years of happiness.
Kinda like being Married! LOL
