Differences between 924 and 951?
Hi everyone,
I've got a question. My friend has 3 cars. 2 951s and a 924. One of the 951 is burnt but the engine is still there. The other 951 is missing a windshield, the turbo, and a few interior components. The 924(don't know what year yet) is almost perfect. How interchangeable are the parts on these cars? For example, would I be able to fit the windshield from the 924 to the 951? Please give any suggestions/comments. Thanks! Jeff |

It's quite easy to exchange most the parts between the cars... The 951 running gear should bolt right into the 924, and if this car is a 924s, call me crazy (everybody here WILL disagree, I assure you!), I'd put the running gear, which is engine, torque tube, transaxle, brakes/wheels, +susp. on the 924, since it's the cleaner car, and it sounds like the one in better shape too.
However, there are many parts that won't fit, one of the most important of which is the windshield, don't forget to use the DME that's on the engine it came with. No mixing 924/951 dme, or any other wiring. It's quite time and money consuming to do a full interior, engine, transaxle blah blah blah... out restoration on these cars, personally I'd go for the 924, if it's an S, that sure would be a sleeper! Anyway, it's do-able, and relatively easy to swap most the running gear, +drive train between the 924/944/951/968 chasis. As a matter of fact, I've tried to find differances between the actual chasis of all 4 front engineds, couldn't come up with anything... I've also read a book that talks about a 924 with 968 running gear, and I've also seen a 944 with 968 running gear, prompting me to say that most parts are (easily) interchangable. Save for the interior, and a few cosmetics, such as the front spoiler, lights... etc. However keep in mind, how easy ever it might be, when you do something custom like this, you'll have "custom" problems! Though I'm sure you didn't intend to make a 951 out of the 924... Good luck whatever you do, Ahmet ------------------ It's all the driver... |

The computer box that manages ignition timing and fuel delivery (among other things) in real time. Since it can adjust all that very quickly, it makes your engine a lot more efficient.

Although going for the "sleeper" look would be cool, I do like the shape of the 951 better. Oh, is the 924 lighter also? The power to weight ratio I guess would be better than the 951 but still, I like the 951 look, and also how the instruments are like. Well, if I can get them for cheap before he sells it to someone else, I'll get all three. Then maybe I can slap the extra 951 brakes onto my 911! That would be cool. Having a 951 as a daily driver (my parents do NOT understand that!) with a/c and a 911 as a track car would be just perfect. Thanks! ------------------ Jeff 1976 911S |

If it's a pre '79 924 there will be other problems. The firewall doesn't have the provision for the clutch master cylinder along with the bracket for the pedal return spring assy.; the rear suspension mounts differently and the transaxle mounts differently on All 924's. The transaxle mount was changed on the 85.5 944 but not to the 924S.
