Grassroots Motorsports Testing Event
Hey Guys,
My name is Travis Geny and I am with Grassroots Motorsports Magazine and Classic Motorsports Magazine. I am hoping you can help us out with an up coming story. We are planning stories on "Budget Supercars" of the 80s and 90s in Grassroots and our new publication Classic Motorsports. Two of the cars that we would like to feature are the 944 Turbo and the 968. We would need clean and well maintained stock or mildly modified examples that are driven on the street. They also need to be able to be at the Michelin testing facility in Laurens, South Carolina on May 6-7. The cars will be put through a mild series of tests including an autocross, braking distance test, 0-60 runs and other such measures of automotive prowess. Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in attending at 1-888-676-9747 or you can e-mail me at GRMtravis@aol.com. Thank you once again and we hope to see you there. I just wanted to say that I LOVED your article on the 944 vs. 911SC a few months back. I wouldn't think that many of your readership is very interested in Porsches, but you guys still stick with them. Kudos.

Do you want modified or stock cars? Lightly modified 951s are relatively cheap and plentiful and may be a good representation of the state most of these cars are in. They'll generally run mid-high 13s in the 1/4, corner at .9+g, get decent mileage, and be available in good shape from $9-12k with about 100k. These years would be 86-88. The 88 and 89 turbo S are not budget and probably should be avoided, unless "budget" means $15k-20k. I'd also avoid the 968 because even though its a very refined car, there's nothing very "Supercar" about it, at least without a turbo or supercharger.

A 944 S2 would be fine. I think stock HP figures are about equal to a turbo, correct me if I am wrong. If you can make it email me at GRMtravis@aol.com. Talk to you soon

Sorry Didn't read the whole thread. A lightly modded 944T is also just fine. We just don't want fire-breathing monsters that are far beyond stock. Light mods are cool and a turbo with a boost controller that can turn the boost down would be even better. We just need one for the 6-7th of May at the Michelin test facility in Laurens South Carolina and if there are any 968s out there we neeone of those too. Thanks again.

Hi it's me again. We are still looking for a 968 and a 944 Turbo to come play with us in South Carolina on the 6th and 7th of May. If you attend your car will be featured in either Grassroots Motorsports magazine or Classic Motorsports magazine. You will get some time to drive at the Michelin test facility. This will be a fun day and will be a great way to show the world just how impressive these cars are. If you are interested please email me at GRMtravis@aol.com or call me at 1-888-676-9747. Thanks again

Since not all Pelican members post regularly, I would advise that you do a search in the member profiles for the model and area that you are looking for, and then contact those owners individually. If I were in the area and owned a 951, I know I wouldn't hesitate to help you out; you can probably convince a few 951, S2, and 968 owners to turn up.
