How to get the center console out of my 951
I have a 86 951 that has just an arm rest not a cassette holder. It appears that the screws holding my arm rest down need to be tightened. I removed the screws on both sides of my radio area and the two screws under the ashtray but I don't see any screws on the back side (towards the rear seat). It is attached somehow. How do I get the back loose?
Thanks guys Thom |

Just an armrest? I don't think so. The screws that hold the rear of the armrest down are inside the armrest.
There are two screws hidden by the ashtray which you have already found but, the armrest must be opened to get at the other two screws which secure the armrest directly to the car body. Now the armrest can be somewhat difficult to open. There is a button on the driver's side that doesn't really work and it requires a large amount of finess to get it open. |

Mine does not have any button also it appears as if someone has used a wood screw from the underside to hold my armrest down. If I tear it up can I put a cassette holder in its spot? Becuase it does not appear any way to remove it.
Thanks again Thom |

Sounds to me like one of the previous owners broke the hinge and rather than replace it simply screwed it all down. Replacements ofr the hing assembly (which is really evything except the colored top) can be found at Automotion, Performance Products, Tweeks and probably here at Pelican as well. Automotion used to sell a metal replacement hinge which I have. It is much sturyder than the OEM desing but is now more xpensive. Back in the day you had to buy the armrest and the box hinge assembly as a unit and they wanted ridiculous money for it. Now you can buy pieces separately so you should be okay if the thing isn't too beat up from being modified not to open.
