968 transaxle noise level - normal

Hey all,

If cruising at 70mph with radio off and windows/roof closed, RPM steady, can you hear your transaxle? If so what does it sound like?

Jason

You should'nt hear any noise from the 968 transaxle, maybe a buzing sound but not a loud one,had a 968 for over ten years never heard any loud noise .Your sure it's not something else you are hearing ,like a wheel bearing or half shaft.

My turbo's transaxel makes all kinds of growling rah-rah noises. I put in some high shock drag racer tranny oil in my ride, reccomended by a local porsche shop and its quieted it down. When your tranny is making a noise in its transaxel, its going to be your sincromesh going out. They wear out and they make some really nice noises, the other thing is check your tranny oil level, and lastly the old ring and pinion gear being worn out...

Pile be the pinion bearing in transaxle or the diff bearings but if it’s resonating inside can a lot put your hand On the rear of the tunnel it could be the torque tube bearings going out there’s 4 in there and 30 years old a lot of these torque tubes bearings are getting noisy on these 944/968 cars
