Hard to shift into 5th and reverse
87 924S. Lately it is getting hard to shift into 5th and reverse. The rest of the gears are fine but on those two gears, I have to slam to right in order to engage in the gear. Is this because of linkage? Or is it internal problem?

I had the same problem on my previous 944.
The shift lever or bushing is worn or loose. take the cover and boot off the shift lever and you will see what`s wrong. It`s a quick and easy fix. ------------------ |

Another Culprit can be your shifter rod coupler in the back of the car. With the back of the car jacked up, look to the right (driver's) side of the transmission right above the halfshafts. There is a bolt with a safety wire on it that connects the end of the rod to the actuating arm. It's common for the bolts to loosen, causing the rod to slip. This is especially common if somebody has worked on it and forgot to rewire the bolt. If this has happened, make sure you reposition the bolt back to it's original spot and rewire it. Good Luck

Thank you for both of you. I will check the bushing and that bolt this weekend.
