Where to find 951
I am looking to buy a real clean 951 without having to go the other side of the globe to find it. About the only place I have found that has many listed on the net is Autotrader.com. Do you know of a place that would have a good listing, mag or web?
Thanks Bill PS: If you are remotely close to NC, and have a 951 that is clean and well maintained that is for sell, contact me. |

Hey Turbo guy, I live in North Carolina and didn't have any trouble finding my 944. I don't have a turbo though. I found mine in the Charlotte Observer where there are several turbos listed daily. I also looked at Ebay for a long time and once in a while you will run across a turbo for sale around NC. It just takes time to find the right one.

Look in the classified ads in Excellence magazine, or get in contact with your local Porsche club.

I found mine out of auto trader but looked first at PCA sites, classified sections. It took me about 8 months for find the right one for me. If the car does not have records from day 1,,,stay away from it. The people who take car of the cars will have the records. 87 is a better car than 86; but 86's are reasonable.

I found mine 9.5 hours north of me (I live in VA, the car was in Rochester NY). I bought it through the internet, went up and picked it up. It didn't have maitenance records, but I talked to the only mechanic to ever work on it. It's been a very good ride since. A lot of people stress maitenance records, and they can be helpful, but then again they can be inaccurate, or not truely reflect how well the car was upkept. That's my 2cents on records anyway.

87, just my thoughts: better brakes, suspension, turbo moved to cooler location, bushings, bearings; some parts are interchangable with other years, including 86. The 87 was engineered to handle the power and produce the power better. The 86, a great car too, the engine was thrown in and "we have boost"! I use my car for weekends, sometimes the wife is in tow, and for the effort of dusting a couple of friends Corvettes! I haven't put the car on a dyno, but around 300 - 310 is a safe estimate of hp. If you track the car, I don't think the year matters, just your budget. Not to mention, 87 first year for air bags and ABS if your lucky. I am new to 951s but had a couple of 944s, did quite a bit of research and asking questions. I don't know what some people think about him but call Dan @ Windward Performance, not to take away from Pelican, he is an engineer and a racer.

You may want to look at ebay motors; sports cars; porsche; 944, There seem to be 3 nice 951s and one 89 "S" model. 2 86s, 1 1986 951 silver/black,47,000 miles: 1 1986, black and beige, 38,000 miles, Concours Winner. The 89 S model is 72,000 miles and white/black.
Good luck ![]() Bret Quote:

Hey TurboGuy, there is a new listing on ebay for an 86, red/tan, 125k. The interior looks flawless, paint is good(there is a spot on the front bumper that needs attention) and it has several upgrades including a MAF kit by autothority. It is asking for bids, seems no reserve, the car is in Houston, local trade at a Mercedes dealer. With the upgrades listed, it should put out hp in excess of 320 at least! WOW!
