Clank Clank Clank
Alright well today my car wouldnt start cuz the battery died so I hadda pop start it ...btw how bad is that for your car? Anyways I get it going and drive around for a while without my music on so my battery can charge. All I hear when im shifting is clank 2nd gear clank 3rd gear clank 4th and so on. I try it again but it doesnt happen. Then im driving along and it clanks again. I drop it down into 3rd ..no clank then i upshift to 4th then clank. I stop the car and i clank into 2nd then no clank into 3rd then i downshift to 2nd then a clank..alright ill stop. Anyways i get in the garage and turn it off. I press on the clutch and move the shifter around 1st gear clank 2nd gear clank 3th gear clank reverse clank....what is it??? Do i need a clutch job? Or a tranny job or is this normal. It has been doing this on and off since ive had it.

when mine was doing that the mechanic said it was cause the "clutch coupler" is going. i think its a rubber centered disk issue or something.
replaced the clutch:noise is gone

Always "pop" start your car in third or fouth gear. Never in first or reverse unless absolutly necessary.
Replace the clutch disc with a spring center unit.

Your rubber center on the clutch disc has shattered or separated. It's what happened to mine. Sadly the wear surface had tons of material left.
I agree, get a spring centered disc. It's a bit rougher, but more reliable. And don't forget to resurface the flywheel... they tend to chatter otherwise.

Check your axles first before you go ripping into your clutch.
Might as well, they are right there in the open and they will clank when they're going out too. Clank up front: clutch Clank in the rear: Axles, maybe transaxle.

It's not the CV joints. It's the clutch. Just wishful thinking.

*IF* your throw out bearing is decent as well as the pressure plate and no leaking flywheel seal you can get away with just the disc and a weekend full of work.
*IF* the rivits on the clutch disc have gouged the flywheel and pressure plate then yes it's time to replace them.
