front end noises? long
ive got a strange knocking noise coming from the front right. what happens when the strut upper support bearing and hardware is worn? motor mounts look good and tight. this noise clunks/knocks when i step on and off the gas pedal. and sounds like the front right somewhere. no noises over speed bumps and any speed and no noise when trying to bounce the front of the car, sitting still, sometimes it makes a little clicking noise when the pads move in the calipers? applying and releasing, but this latest is something more.
new front 250# springs vertex rebuilt a arms new koni yellows set hard new mo30 front bar and bushing rebuilt/new manual steering rack 968 calipers 928 rotors porterfield pads stainless lines 17" twists with kumhos the only thing left is the strut upper support bearing, and it looks to be in good shape.? its in the air right now, wheels off and next step is to try to move things around with a pry bar? also im thinking a bad arm bushing? maybe jack up the arm first and then pry? anyone?

The aluminum brake calipers you have will make a "creaking" noise.
Seems to be centered in and around the wheel - check wheel bearings (are they worn, do you have them too tight?, and strut mounts. Front suspension noises are a pain - too many variables. AFJuvat

I also had a strange knocking noise from the right front. The noise was intermittent and progressively became more frequent. It sounded terrible as if someone was under the hood banging around with a hammer. I could feel the vibration of each knock through to the accelerator and break pedals. The noise was more noticeable when the car was slowing down or stopped. When the brakes were applied the noise stopped.
We finally found the source of the noise. The automatic cruse control was malfuctioning and banging the throtle cable back and forth. Unplugging the controller eliminated the noise completely. I never use the cruse control and didn't realize it had stopped working. _____________ '84 944 |
