Possible starter problem

Ok, first off, i've had this problem off and on since i bought the car almost 6 years ago. I think it may be a condensation issue, but if my car sits at night or when it's rained some, i get in and no start. No clicks, nothing. If i try and crank it then sit with the key in for a couple minutes, it decides to start. I've heard that could be a sign that the starter is going out. But it also sounds like there may be condensation on the contacts?
I don't know.
Does anyone
Thanks

Last time there was a post with similar symptoms the problem was due to water leaking under the battery tray and shorting out the DME. I cant remember if his car turned over though. I would check the ignition switch also.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but you
still can't help but smile when you see one tumble down the stairs.

Couple items. Check the battery cables, especially the negative from battery post to sheet metal and from sheet metal to bellhousing since you have an '83. Suppose it could also be the starter solenoid, but I'd first place bets on cables and contacts. You are not turning over at all so don't start chasing the DME yet.

I sell a battery cable replacement kit as well as the solenoids, if you need them. Go over to Rennlist and search on me (user #635) in the 924/944/968 forum and battery cables and you can read about them.

I had a simalar problem and it turned out to be corroded battery cables. A new set cured the problem.

Well, i know i don't have the water leak problem from the battery, that hole has been fixed and i'm pretty sure my dme is on the drivers side. It may be my battery cables, they are pretty nasty. I'll check some of that stuff out. thanks for the replies
