Tachometer problem

Most of the time (80%-90%), when I start my 84 944 na, the tach is dead. Once I start moving, usually by second gear, sometimes as late as third, it jumps to life and works perfectly from them on. It happens regardless of whether the car is cold, hot, 10 degrees F outside, 98 degrees F outside, been sitting 3 weeks, or been sitting 3 minutes. It's not really a problem, but slightly annoying and somewhat curious. Anyone have any ideas?

Monitor Voltage Regulaor output or tighten belt. It is very sensitive to volts/amps.

My 83 944 does that too. Try tapping the side of the dash every time you start the car. The tach come to life every time.

My 86 951 had a speedo that did the same thing...except that it would do it intermeditly. I replaced it with another unit and it has worked fine since.
