Shift Lever Vibration

I'm a 3 weeks old Porsche owner who have a manual 150k 87 924S.
Last weekend I had a couple of hundreds miles trip. I found my shift lever has a lot of vibration when I drove either over 3k rpm or over 80 mph no matter which gear I was in. I can feel the vibration by putting my hand on the shift lever. The vibration would not getting worse or better when I drove faster than that. The reached 100 mph for a couple of times. My car run good in general.
Do you have same kind of vibration? Is it normal? Do I need a trans maintain service?
Any comments will be appreciated.
Thanks
Eugene

Your clutch might be on it's way out. On my car before I had the clutch replaced I would get strong vibrations in the shifter usually above 3k rpm. So the clutch could potentially be your problem.

Rollins, how long will the clutch last in this condition as your experience?

A warped clutch disc/flywheel can cause vibration, unless badly slipping, a worn clutch will NOT.

Other causes can be worn engine/transaxle mounts, however more likely is the bushing at the base of the shifter lever, OR the rod welded onto the shifter lever, where the linkage slips over it.

Two possible causes, one is the rubber clutch coupling is falling apart, when chunks come off it becomes out of balance. The other cause is the balance shafts not being properly timed. If your clutch lets go the impact can weaken the transaxel, see the last picture in my web page for details.

Don't over-react everyone... It might just be a balance shaft out of alignment... sounds like it is more engine speed related... I just did belts and tensioners on my car and I had a little vibration before hand, after lining everything up the engine is smooth as silk and no more shifter vibs...

Now to takle the front shimmy/steering wheel shake... suspension is good.. may be the bad wheel bearing... I'll know next week...

This may sound way off, but here goes.
I had the same problem where the shift lever and the whole center console was rattling like crazy at certain rpms and after investigating I found that the Exhaust hanges weren't hanging on and the exhaust was actually in contact with the torque tube. I had a shop rehang the exhaust for $60 and now it's smoother than ever at every rpm, though the dash still rattle a bit.
