Need To Re-Attach Rearview Mirror...Type Of Glue?
While removing my dashboard for reupholstering...I inadvertently knocked off the rearview mirror - which is perfectly intact with its circular mounting flange. What's left on the windshield is a circular patch of hardened glue.
So...my thought is to first use that glue-patch to draw a circle with a Sharpie marker, then remove the patch with a razor blade. Finally, I'll use a drop of glue to re-affix the mirror. Question - what type of glue? I've got a fresh bottle of Gorilla brand Super Glue, which I'm guessing would work fine - but is there some other type I should use instead? And does the overall process which I've described above sound OK? (btw...the dash came out great. Not perfect mind you...but great!) |

Mark it on the outside before scraping. They make special glue for attaching rearview mirrors. Check your local auto parts store.

You might just let a local glass shop do it, not much more than the cost of the "kit" Last time I had it done.

I used superglue, not sure if mirror mount adhesive has any more mojo. Maybe get some superglue gel?

I think I paid about 5 bucks for a tiny tube of the right stuff for that. maybe its superglue.
i got 2 new side mirrors too , they both let loose so you could check those or if they fall they will break. I dont see a way to clamp it it must be a type of superglue to dry that fast, how long can you hold your arms up for ? ;-) Last edited by Monkey Wrench; 09-04-2024 at 01:09 PM.. |

Put this guy on the case:

garfield might actually work lol ;-)
If you dont have enough cans of "stuff" around your shop you can go buy a can of superglue accelerator / catalyst if the stuff is simply superglue gel , probably is, then its one more product you probably don't need. its a good question for a guy that works in a glass shop. there sure are a lot of little bottles of "stuff" in this world, so many are simply unnecessary pollution.
