Getting the instruments out.
_ I got my new Tach today, but I can't get in to replace it. I have the Steering Wheel, switches, and the hex bolt out. I can't seem to be able to remove the plastic parts. How do you get either just them or the whole aluminum thing and the ignition out?

I hate to post this, but here goes:
I VERY CAREFULLY worked a flat head screw driver behind one side and wiggled a bit until I could jam a rag in there, then worked the other side a bit. The major concern here is that you not pull hard or bend the plastic frame (that which looks aluminum - hey, maybe it IS aluminum, but it bends like plastic). If you pull hard, you run the risk of pulling the electric cables and or the speedo cable. It's a brut force equation of slow wiggling. Yeah, I love that sentance. Good luck - feel free to email me with more questions - I've done this way too many times on my early 944, which I think should be essentially the same as the 924 instrument cluster

_ Gave up on removing the console. Seems my car is different from even most 924s. I replaced the bulbs in the spedo and installed the tach. without out removing the instrument cluster. I am very sore now(hanging upsidedown in the driver's seat playing with little teeny wires), but at least I can tell what my redline and speed (at night) are. $45 for a working, stock, EDO tach. is not to bad. The same yard has 924T and 944 instruments too. Thanks for all of the advice!
