Post Some questions concerning my 951...

Hi there (and sorry for my bad english),

Sometimes, when breaking on neutral, I hear a "toc" coming from one (or both) rear wheel, exactly as if I'd be running on a loose sewer plate. I know that my driver's CV joint is worn, can it cause these "tocs" even on neutral, meaning that my passenger's one would also want to give up soon?

Are fast launches THAT bad for the 951 drivetrain (transaxle, CV joints)? I got it 1 week ago and since then, one CV joint gave up and I fear that the right one is going to do the same thing.

Also, is it normal if my boost gauge shows 2 bars at its peak? I don't know if it wants to go higher, it just stops at 2 bars (max indicated data on the stock gauge). The car accelerates REALLY hard. I only have a chip, boost controller and 2.8L stroker kit and this weekend, I stomped a Camaro Lt1 with minor mods on a rolling start (~3 carlenghts on a 30-70 mph acceleration, he then gave up). Also this weekend, I barely won against a highly modded Civic (Gsr engine on NOS) on a standing start. I know that these results are doubful, unless the Turbo boost controller is setted way too high (I got the car like that). I can hear a noticeable minor "pfiiiiii" even at only 1 bar. Is all that normal? I don't know much about 951's, that's my first one. I previously owned a 944 1983 and both cars are like night and day.

Thanks alot for your help!!!

First of all get a VDO boost gauge. Second of all, replace the other cvs if there is any doubt. Second and a half - get an a/f meter and 4 wire O2 sensor. Third - turn the boost down until you figure out how much you're running! 2.8's are more sensitive to high boost so be extra careful.

Stock gauge shows Absolute pressure, since running any car at 2bars=29.4PSI above atmosphere is very dangerous unless the motor is seriously built.

Hmmmm... What's about the "toc" sound even when braking even on neutral? Can it REALLY be the CV joints?

Eurospec, hello buddy! Yeah, I'm the former owner of the black 944 located at http://my944.cjb.net ! I recently found my dream car and sold the black one to my brother. Here's the beast:

SHe's a beauty Yan, the Claudia Schiffer among 951s! Have you ever thought of putting a Huntley Racing or Autothority MAF kit on that car to get rid of that airbox? You should get a lot more response from that turbo seeing that more air will be let in. You'll probably just need the filter seeing you have the chips already. Hope to see you on the board more often! Email me about how things go wiht the car at pors944@earthlink.net because I'm interested in trading my NA in for a 944 Turbo finally.
