Post Saturn vs 944??? DUDE THAT IS SO WRONG

Some ass in a Saturn decided to test a 944's cornering ability while i was driving to the doctor's today. Around windy roads I achieved speeds of 50-70 mph through 25 mph-40 mph turns. Sucker couldn't keep up....whats with people these days? They put a muffler on their car and they think they can go 200mph and outhandle us liquid cooleds??? How degrading...

I was driving home from my nephew's gratuation at W&L Law in my MB sedan. Turned off I81. Wife and mother (ancient) in car but both used to stuff. Did not slow down for exit with a minivan behind - I was not trying to con him on. Anyway, I looked in rearview and the van was on the grass. I did not think anything of it, that is to say the speed, and just did the apex properly which is no big deal. The fool behind me just followed along but did not do the turn in properly. Dinner is ready will get back with what happened today.

That's what happens when you watch the guy in front of you, instead of the road.

hehe thats cool Lawrence, I had a similar incident back when I was driving my 300zx. Some dip**** in a tricked out honda came up behind me on a narrow mountain road near my house. I knew the roads real well. We were on a straight part I was doing the speed limit of 35 and he was inches off my bumper so I sped up a little bit since there was no where to let him pass and soon was cruising atjust under 50. A large S-turn was coming up and there are warning signs all over for it to go about 20. I let off the gas and took the turn at about 45, I dont know what he did -I think he slammed on the breaks but he went up the hill. I felt bad later. I told all my friends, and they didnt understand why I felt bad, they all thought it was the coolest thing ever. I wouldnt do it again though. I knew the whole time he was going to crash his car. I did make sure he was ok -which I dont think he appreciated.

And here is what happened this morning. Well I drove my mother to Amherst, VA on Thursday. This morning, Friday, I left my sister's home alone to return to Kingsport, TN. I took 60 West to I-81. There is a winding mountain road you must go through. I was bopping along in the sedan, a 400E (has some grunt) passing cars whenever the dotted line permitted. Got them all passed before the big climb with all the curves so I was free to enjoy myself in the car (as much as I could in the 3750 lbm sedan). Up I went into the curvies, road was dry, I was having fun. On one straight section I see a small car about 200 yards ahead. I maintain my pace, good apexes, car is not sliding the slightest bit on the pavement, but I am at a clip faster than someone with no track experience would go. Another S curve, a short straight and car is only about 100 yards ahead. Another curve or two, and I am 15 feet behind. Anyway, the driver then begins to speed up and almost looses it in the next curve. So I settle in several car lengths behind. We go through Buena Vista and she, who is really speeding on the straight highway now, has to stop for a stoplight. By the time I near the light, it turns green and off she goes. She was the only one in the left lane with a truck on the right. She pulls ahead of the truck and I pass the truck, then move to the right lane and pass her. She has the small Japanese car wound out. So I nudge the go fast pedal. It's in third gear (auto -4). I run it up to about 75 in the 55 mph limit. She's still on it but several lengths behind. Little harder on the gas and I'm going 85 opening up 6-7 car length gap. She's still on it. So, being older and wiser with nothing to prove, I lifted and she went by. The thought went through my head to speed back up (car will do 149 before gov. cuts in) and rub her nose in it.

I thought this was amazing. All I did was catch her on the curvies. Had I had my 951, I would have passed her on the curvies then watched the entertainment in the rear view.

"YEAH. whats up with that!?
people think they can put yellow plug wires, a huntley battery cover, and a 951 tranny and they can go 200 MPH!? what the hell!?"

Yea whats up with people with automatic Porsches and turbo stickers on them???? I just don't get how automatics can get over 400 HP with a turbo sticker while my yellow wires, intake and other mods only gimme about 160 hp.....

I was on the other side of this once. I was following a boxter in my other car, a 1985 mazda 626. We happened to be going in the same direction. He tried to take a right turn quickly to lose me. We both broke at the last second, I heel-toed from 3rd to 2nd and followed him right through, hitting the apex and powering out. In the boxter he could have taken the turn 20 mph faster, it's all the driver. However I know my little mazda and wouldn't have followed if he had been going twenty over. It would be a different matter if I was in my 930 at the time.

I live in Nashville. I'm moving to Murfreesboro in a few months, but I'm going to store my P-car in Nashville.

Cool

On the PCA fun run this weekend, as the Porsche express (16 cars) was barreling past a gas station, a light stopped the line just behind the front three cars-- lead- 914/6 next 88 951 next 86 951. Two bubba types in a Ford Ranger wannabe pickup with canoes in the bed pulled out behind us and in front of the line of 911s. The lead cars started getting on it a bit, bubba hangs in there with the canoes. Lead cars get on it a bit more, bubba's tryin' to show off his Detroit muscle (with canoes attached). We started taking the curves faster and faster, and it got rather comical to watch bubba and co. trying to follow. Bubba driver was determined to keep up with the express. Bubba passenger wasn't so sure. While they were having an animated discussion on an uphill left sweeper, bubba driver encountered severe understeer and canoe shift. They got off and you should have seen them go at it in the truck.

Later that day, we started up a hillclimb section with the 914/6 in the lead, two 951s next and a slew of 911s following. The 914/6 had a set of Supertraps on it and the sound was great. We blasted through a curve and ahead on a short straight was an Escort with the hood up. I guess the kid driving the Escort heard us coming, he jumped out to the side of the road, waving, thumbs up, grinning from ear to ear as Porsche after Porsche blew by. My son made it a point to talk to all of the other drivers there at lunch. The comments from the 911 Turbo driver was very interesting. He had trouble keeping up! At least on the really twisty parts. On the straights, he would most likely have blasted past. Like I said on another thread, it was a very good day.
