New start problem..ugggh!
Ok, I posted awhile ago about my 87 944na not getting any spark after a hard rain. There was some water on the DME wires and above the DME behind the glovebox. So I just let the DME dry out and I now have spark. But now I'm getting a new problem with no fuel. Origionally I thought it may be a bad DME relay so I replaced that and still no fuel. When I turn the key the fuel pump does not come on. The car will start if I pump the accelerator and run for 5-10 seconds all the while emitting white smoke out the tailpipe. I jumped the terminals on the relay and the fuel pump does run. Also power is getting to the injectors. I've done this multiple times in my various tests. Any suggestions? DME maybe? Too much uncombusted fuel in the engine making things worse? If so, anyone got any extra DMEs on their hands? I'll be a way for a few days before I can get at it again. Thanks for any suggestions.

This happened to me on my previous $400 ****box... The white smoke indicating a blown cylinder head gasket, but this is a porsche so it might be a different problem.

Pump the accelerator? This is electronic injection not a pair of Webbers.
As was mentioned in the prior thread the DME controls the fuel pump through reading the speed sensor. It closes the second set of contacts in the DME relay. If you have no fuel pressure during cranking, spark at a spark plug AND a new DME/fuel pump relay, most likely the DME brain is fried. Be sure to get the same year or year group DME replacement.

Yeah, I know not to pump a fuel injected car but i thought I'd do it anyway for whatever reason. I was afraid it was the DME. When you say to get the same year group DME, does that mean 85.5-87 or does it have to be an 87? Thanks for the help.

Think there was a change in 88. Not really sure. Wilks????
Early DME's are different. As are the early AFS's.
