I got a set of (rear?) calipers from a guy and he said that they came off the rear of a 87 944T but the pads listed on this site are different are different #'s for front and rear. Is this a smaller caliper or what makes it different from the front is probably a better question.
I got them to convert my 911 with 84-89 car. rotors (the swap is suppose to provide better braking and fit under the fuchs) thanks for any help |

thanks, in the mean time I will see if Autozone (chain store here) has pads that I can compare to get an Idea.

I believe the front and rear calipers are the same for the Non M030 cars (i.e. '87 turbo and normal S2's). The running gear on an S2 is essentially the same as a non "S" 88 turbo.
They do have different front and rear rotors. However, I am almost certain that even though there is a difference in the rotors it doesn not precipitate a need for different front and rear pads. So, to answer your question (kind of), the front and rear pads on a non-M030 car or non-S turbo are the same, just the rotors are different. ------------------ Max 91 944S2 Cabriolet 89 911 Carrera (fomerly) |

The front and rear caplipers are definately not the same (at least not on an '86). I think the rear pads are smaller, and the pistons in the rear calipers are smaller than those in the front.

86-88 regular Turbo calipers take the same brake pads, however the calipers themselves are a little different. The front one use larger pistons and the caliper housing itself is a little larger.

The front and rear calipers ARE in deed the SAME. The part numbers for both front and back for the right side are 95135242202. The left side for front and back are 95135222102. So, they are the same calipers. Hope this helps.

Tim,
I would double check that, at least for late offset cars. If you mount front brake calipers on the rear you must use extra spacer washers to get the caliper to line up. The standard rear turbo caliper requires 1 spacer washer per bolt, the front when mounted on the rear requires two spacer washer's per bolt. Also when this is done with a front brake upgrade the stock MC no longer has enough volume, causing other problems. I know this from experience. |

Well, those are the part numbers I got off the computer at work. But I personally don't know. Why would the part numbers be the same?

Okay I got the low down I should have been paying attention earlier.
#1 the part number 951 352 221 02 refers to a rear caliper the second set of numbers "352" refers to the rear brake system, the fronts is "351", the third set of numbers refers to the left or right side, and the first set is of course the vehicle type it was designed for, also the last set is the generation. Now for the part numbers: Front Left 951 351 421 01 Caliper w/ scraper ring piston36/40 (S2) 951 351 421 02 Caliper w/ protection cap piston 36/40 (S2) 951 351 421 03 Caliper w pprotection cap piston 36/40 (S2) 951 351 093 00 Caliper w/ scraper ring piston 36/44 (Turbo) 928 351 421 02 Caliper w/ protection cap piston 36/44 (M030) Front Right 951 351 422 01 (S2) 951 351 422 02 (S2) 951 351 422 03 (S2) 951 351 094 00 (Turbo) 928 351 422 02 M030 Rear Left 951 352 421 00 caliper w/ scraper ring piston 28/30 (Turbo) 951 352 421 01 caliper w/ protection cap piston 28/30 (S2) Rear Right 951 352 422 00 (Turbo) 951 352 422 01 (S2) (This information from Porsche(tm) Microfiche) |

Pilot 951S........the numbers 36/44 and the 28/30.....does that refer to the piston size differences between front and rear calipers (in MM) as I assume that it does?
I don't think that I will be using them if it does. thanks for your help steve |

The way I understand it it refers to the piston sizes in the same caliper.
Porsche/Brembo 4 piston calipers all have differential piston sizes to reduce brake pad taper so the leading piston is smaller than the trailing piston (according to rotor rotation) on each side of the caliper. Of course the Microfiche doesn't give an extraneous information so I could be wrong about that, however on the fiche the numbers were preceded by the engineering symbol for diameter so that is my current assumption. |
