Sure, Engine codes for the Normally aspirated models are: M 44/01 through M 44/08. 08, 06, 04, and 03 being automatics.

The 88 Models are M 44/09 for manual trans and M 44/10 for autos.

The 89 Models are M 44/11 for manual, and M 44/12 for autos. (this is the desirable 8v 2.7 amongst some turbo guys).

The regular turbo engine code is M 44/51, and as you might've guessed the 944 turbo S is M 44/52.

That's interesting the early engine codes are not mentioned, and some others are left out in the pelican page, but very good info no less.
