Post Installing the Hood Crest!!!

Hey guys, this question might be trivial to 951 owners with a removable nose panel, but I have no way of getting to the back of mine (84 944na) to put those fast lock nuts on to hold the new hood crest in place!!!

How can I do it?
Thanks in Advance.
E

actually, your nose peice IS removable.

this is what you need to do,

TAKE out the screws that you see when you open your hood. then pop up your headlights and remove the rubber peice. there are more screws that are in the nose panel under there. (one side is screw, the other is a nut and bolt)

then, you remove these ones that are in the back area to the side of the headlights. (hard to explain)

its a lil tricky to describe, but you will understand more when you pop up the lights and take out that rubber peice.

COMPLETE INSTRUCTIONS FOR REMOVING NOSE PIECE (Between headlights)
*NO WELDING NECESSARY* (only hand tools)

1-) Pop the hood.

2-) Remove the 4 bolts/nuts at the leading edge of the hood when it's closed (as in where the hood's leading edge would be if it were closed).

3-) Raise the headlights, turn ignition off (better yet disconnect battery) but not the light switch, that'll make the headlight buckets close.

4-) Pull away the cover strips, (at the leading edge of the headlights when closed, as in where the leading side would be when they are NOT raised, the strips should just slide out) Take off the two nuts/bolts that you will see immidiately after removing the cover strips.
(on both sides!)

5-)Remove the pilips screw, and the bolt from (there's one of each), at each "indentation for headlights". The bolts point away, and screws point towards each other. You should see these bolts at this stage, look carefully, quite hard to miss...

6-) Slide the panel forward, away from the car.

There's 12 pieces of screw/bolt/nut that will be removed in total...

Installation should be reverse of removal, I presume you'd need to align the holes at the headlight bucket rest spaces, than align the nose piece with the hood and headlights, and finally tighten all bolts...

if you need a pictorial to follow, lindsey racing has one that shows removal of the nosepiece (for swapping a 951 intercooler, probably similar steps for a 944) here:

The 924/944 up to 85.0 do not have removable badge panels. I removed my badge panel with a drill and a jigsaw.

After 3 hours to remove the welds on the nose panel I have on the car, and 2 more hours to remove the nose panel from the piece that parts heaven sent me, I was able to replace the nose panel and install it with bolts, and finally put my new hood crest in ... now I have a blue nose panel, but it is metallic, so it fits okay with the silver of the rest of the car, until I paint it.

I didn't find my weld removal drill bit, and the job was really tough with normal drill bits, a saw, and a crow bar ... My hands are numb today from all the work (job took about 12 hours total) ... but the car look nice, and i finally have a hood crest and a nose panel with no dents in it.

If i get pictures I will post ...
all I have to say is that I envey late model owners for the perk of being able to remove their nose panel easily ...
