Exclamation Temperature Guage All The way Up----WHY!?

Hey, my 944 temp guage has always worked. Well, I let a relative test drive it right after I washed the engine off, and told him to be nice on it....Well....he wasn't. Ever since he got hard on it, the fans come on and it runs great. But, the temp guage goes from 0 to the highest heat RIGHT when I start it, even if it hasn't been running all day. So, I wonder if it is the gauge or thermostat. What do you think?

you probably got water in the temp sending unit. Dry that off first.

Your radiator fans come on when the car is cold, too? Again, probably water in connections from the engine wash job is shorting things out.

That's what I was hoping. Just let it dry? Actually, the fans still come on, but only once it starts to get warm and it 100 degrees outside. So, it is probably just in the guage. Thanks! Let me know of any other ideas....just in case....
