Question Bleeding clutch system

Hi,

My clutch/slave cylinder has gone bye bye. I am thinking of doing the job myself but when the Hayes manual said to bleed the system it requires one to remove the starter in order to do this. Is this correct?

Yes, removing the starter is easy, two 19mm Bolts, one points to rear one to front, then the electrical part. 5/16 Wrench and 13mm, NOTE the way the wires go on the starter. After you remove it, you'll see the slave cylinder up to your right a lit'l (if you're coming in from left rear side. Anyway, yeah you do remove the starter ;-].

And don't forget to remove that battery cable before attacking the starter

bleed the clutch is pretty easy, you can leave the starter in just disconnect the battery.

make sure you check the fluid level because when i did mine it would pump 2 or 3 times then i had to refill and wait a few secs for the clutch resevoir to fill up again.

i was thinking of getting a separate resevoir for the clutch because it would make things a lot easier.

Magnus...Are you referring to the Motive Power Bleeder

Wondering if you have used one and how you like it compared to other methods...like the old fashioned two person pump method or Speed Bleeders...

Thanks for the replies.

The parts are on the way and should arrive by Friday, I hope. This leaves me Saturday to do the job.

I just did mine last weekend.

Don't need to remove the starter, but you do need a really small (short) 7mm wrench to do the bleeding.

Just remember to keep the brake fluid level above the hose that feeds the clutch master from the brake fluid reservoir. I kept having to physically tip the brake fluid reservoir over to the drivers side of the car to get the fluid to this hose. Kind of annoying.

The best procedure I found was to open the bleed screw, push the clutch in and watch the fluid pour out. Once you see the new fluid coming out, close the bleed screw. Now, bleed the clutch kind of like you would bleed brakes.

Hope this helps,
