My alternator light seems to have dissappeared. I did the alternator check per Haynes manual. 14 volts at the battery engine off, 13 1/2 with it running. Shorting out the alternator test hole gave no change. The battery is not dying, so it is definitely charging. Went for a drive tonight and noted no change on headlight brightness until I hit about 2000 rpm. Checked battery after an half hour drive and it is at 14 volts. Took the dash apart to check the warning light bulb and it lights up when I put 12 volts to it, but will not light up in the dash. It was working about a week ago. Any ideas?

I forgot to ask where I can wire in an ammeter to check the charge rate.

If the light went completely out, that doesn't mean your alternator is failing ... it just means that **IF** it fails, you won't be able to find out from the warning light. Just try to rotate the bulb holder in the socket a bit, it could be a bad connection there.
