Post Painted wheels...

It took about 2 hours total:

Take wheels off, clean/wipe them, sand them (600 grit I believe), paint, paint again, and clear coat. I used engine paint, resists up to 500 F degrees of heat.

I just did my wheels as well. Turned out pretty well, I think. Sure took a long time to paint the caps!

You can't post things from there, well you can but you can't see them unless you are logged onto the communitie. Try using www.webshots.com Thats what I use.

Wheels look good, how about some close ups.

The center caps are all Testors model paint (gold, red, black) and the background is the "aluminum" paint I used for the wheels.
Then 2 layers of clear coat to seal it all up.
Thanks!

A few friends of mine saw the pics, they also thought it was lowered, maybe the rims make it look that way... Well, the suspension has (factory) sport bits so that's probably the real reason, here's a few more shots:

There's a zip tie holding my front spoiler, and a little bit of overspray on the tires... But the paint on the wheels look really good. I only did the lip, without much sanding and no clear coat on the driver's side rear wheel just to compare how the paint will hold up, rest is high temp paint, and clear coat.

I just might try to pursue that supercharger idea, if I can keep saving money, as it doesn't make sense for me to get another car for at least a year (insurance too high). Also, might get some help for a full roll cage we shall see how things go. (You know me, one day I think I'm selling it, the next I have plans for it again).

Some of you will also catch that the bumper is a little pushed in, but that was done a long time ago. BTW, thanks for the favorable comments.
Ahmet

I rebuilt, and painted them. I put in a new master cylinder, ATE super blue racing brake fluid, braided stainless steel brake lines, Pagid Orange brake pads (semi racing), with wider tires (225/50/15 front, 245/50/15 rear), and sport suspension with new shocks, the car stops quite well. Those are ATE Cross slotted rotors, they help avoid fade, but don't know how they'd hold up to 50-70 more hp, we'll see about the supercharger...

No, It was just "aluminum" colored spray paint that I got at the Auto parts store. I forget the brand but it was the best paint they had at the store. About 5.00 a can. I shot 2 cans total on he wheels, 2 or 3 coats.
I did the same on the wheels on my VW Golf a couple years ago and they still look good. Just gotta be careful washing them and not use anything real harsh. I try to keep them clean because I think brake dust will screw up the paint.
Good luck
Brian

Oh Ahmet, not you too! The paint job does look very well done for only a 2-hour job though. I guess I should be happy that everyone here isn't doing something worse...like chrome-dipping their wheels--or worse, ditching the Fuchs for 18" mags that bend the second you hit a pothole.

To each his own, I guess...personally, I'm a fan of Tim's simple "strip" job (you know what I mean.) Looks clean, modern, and shows a nice contrast from the tire. Nice work, man.

Nice work, Ahmet, Pilot. There are so many things you can do to update the look of your car: seems the wheels are the best place to start. (The prev. owner of my 944 got 911 5 spoke wheels when his phone dials got old)
-Zoltan.

PS: Ahmet: when's your next autox? DE? There's a DE at Lime Rock CT with the North NJ PCA on Sept 14-15. Is that too far for you???
