Post 2.7L engine

Are the 2.5 and 2.7 litre 944NA engines different externally?would you be able to tell one from the other just by looking at it?

Yes they are visually different, look at the valve cover, the plug wires are rescessed into the cover itself. Also the instake has a more "turbo type" look to it.

weren't they bored? I thought that the stroker crank would bring displacement to 2.8?

944, 944S, 951 all have the same bore and stroke, '89 944's have the same bore, but use the longer stroke crank from the S2, the 944S2 has a bigger bore and same stroke as the '89 944... best of both worlds... 968 is the same as the S2, but adds variable valve timing.

yup, i got it backwards, they all have the same stroke and bore (who the hell lists it like that?? i always have seen bore THEN stroke #s), '89 were same crank and fatter bore, S2 are the only ones with the longer stroke crank, same bore as the '89s... still best of both worlds
