Well, I got a new coil, put it in and NO CHANGE. Engine still cranks over but won't start. To review, I've put in new ignition relays, and new coil. Had previously put in new spark plugs. In the last 5K miles have new distributor, rotor, and plug wires.
What do you guys think should be checked next? Do you still think electrical, or, fuel???? '87 944 n/a |

it must be fuel related maybe a bad pump or something? The filter could be bad or you could have a block in the lines but that seems less likely.

Are you getting spark to the plugs? (pull a plug and check) if yes, are you getting compression in the cylinders? (compression check can be done without a gauge, but a gauge helps)if yes, are you getting fuel to the cylinders? (that's alittle harder to determine best done with a fuel pressure gauge) air + fuel + compression + spark should run... unless the timing belt somehow has slipped and the timing is off, but that usually turns into a far worse problems involving the head and bent valves. You can remove the cam cover to see if the belt is at least turning. goodluck

Pull a plug, ground the body (of the plug), and crank engine. That should settle the question about whether it is electrical or fuel.

newoldguy,
You put a new rotor in 5k ago, did you put locktite on the small bolt that goes into the rotor? If not this bolt may back out, letting the rotor spin on the shaft, or fall into the timing cover. This could cause the car to run intermitently or not at all. Good luck, Kevin |
