1987 Tachometer and Speedometer problem

Sometime ago, my car had an aftermarket alarm installed. I had my previous mechanic/electrician remove the alarm because I just didn’t need it anymore. Well he told me that the person who installed the aftermarket alarm had changed one of the factory relays to make the alarm work correctly. He told me that he installed an original relay back in the car. Anyhow the alarm was now out but I noticed after I picked up the car that my speedometer and tachometer do not move and they haven’t worked since. Well he told me he didn’t touch any of those items and they must have just blown a fuse or something. I just don’t want to take my car back to him anymore because he ruined a few other things and I just don’t want to deal with him anymore. I would bet my house that he F***** up something.



I checked my fuses and couldn’t find any of them blown, so I think it’s a relay or wiring somewhere. I think he either shorted-out a relay or has something cross-wired.

Where do I start .....help?

On another note: I need a mechanic/electrician
I'm located in Southern California area (ontario) and need a good reasonable mechanic for future work on my 944 if anyone can please help contact me.

Yeap. He screwed up.

Factory alarm grounds out the coil/tach wire. Has a special plug coming off of the DME harness just for the alarm hook up.

When an after market alarm is installed puting a jumper on this is often over looked and you get a dead tach. I don't see how the speedo figures into this other than the wires to it may have been cut by (his) mistake.
