We (944-Spec) racers have found aftermarket headers to produce no meaningful hp increase on stock NAs. We dyno tested Bursch, MSDS, and stock. We now just use the tubular style stock headers which came from the factory and are readily available for little $$ at most junk yards. Powder-coat them if you want a little bling.

Trying to think of the names of two of the after market exhaust systems. One has a stainless system.
www.ghlmotorsports.com SFR Bursch As always check Pelican Parts for the system you decide on. Give them first shot at it. Supports this web site.

The GHL site has nothing for 944...and their prices are more than what my cars worth...no thx

On a similar subject, the PO of my car recently replaced the exhaust, but with stock components. I would have preferred something a little sportier... does anyone make a good, inexpensive performance exhaust that's not "ricey" and is well made? I just would like a lttle more audio feedback, nothing too loud, and if I get a few extra HP that would be nice too.
Is there a market for the stock parts? this is an '88 944, not S or turbo thanks nate

it seems that the only performance-boosting exhaust setup out there is by B&B (Billy Boat)... and boy is it expensive. About $1000 for the headers alone...

The aftermarket cost is why many stick with the stock exhaust and just opt out the CAT for a high flow.

well thats what i did...after my cat cracked, i simply cut it out, and i welded a straight pipe on which i got from home depot.
the issue i have with this is the fact that its not perfectly straight and is pressing pretty hard against the body where it bolts on to the muffler. this produces vibration and a very loud (and a bit ricey) vibration between 2700-3000rpm. i think ill just wait and see....ill either get so annoyed with the vibration that ill just take it off and make it straight with a hammer or just take the cat off a parts car im getting from a local insurance auto auctionprobably wont opt for anything aftermarket unless i find a really good deal on ebay or what not.
