konis weltmeister and tires
Alright, so my shocks are pretty shot. Well totally driveable but i have convinced myself they need replacing.
I want to do koni yellows all around with weltmeister 250 lb springs........And I want to get some new rubber as well. The thing is I never hear any reviews on here about the koni upgrade from stock.......... Basically I need something to push me over the edge......tell me why you love em or hate em. I don't exactly have the money......but i can buy it......... it is 750 for strut inserts, shocks, springs, all bumpers and boots and some new sway bar bushings as well........so with tires it would probably be a $1100 bucks or so Now it seems to me that with all this put on, it is one of the best upgrades this car could ever get. yes, no? Also what tires should i get? i need something that handles the rain because i am taking this car up to alaska (call me crazy). stock size is 215/60 15 but i thought i read about someone using 225/60 15 all around and thought it handled better? is 225 wider than the 215s? thanks....... pico

Yes, the 225 would be wider. The first # is the tread width in millimeters, the next is the ratio (%-age) of sidewall profile to width, and the third is rim diameter in inches. For example, a 225/70/16 would be a 225mm wide tire with a height (sidewall) of 70% of 225mm (in this case 157.5mm or 6.2"), and an I.D. of 16" (i.e. 16" rim). Hope that helps.

I did the Koni conversion on my 88' and i love them. I have not done the springs or anything else but those made a huge diffrence. I am running 225 45 17 Kuhmo MX's and they stick very well. Thats my 2 cents.

![]() I painted the centercaps and I really like the way they look. Also if your plan on dooing it yourself. I did the Koni conversion on my struts and it was easy. It helped that I had an extera set lying around so I could do the insert stuff off the car and pop them on when I was done. I just got the koni's and I paid $560 for the whole set. I still have the extra set of struts if your interested i could part with them for cheep. -Greg

Greg,
What are the rim widths on your C2s? Are they Porsche C2s or replicas? Either way, they look darn good. I'm starting to favor the look of the C2s over Twists! Matt

Thanks, They are replica C2's. They are 7.5 all the way around with the 225's all they way around as well. I just got back from an auto-x and I was impressed with the new shocks. This is my first race with the Konis and I was turning times on par with much faster cars. Unfortunatly it was a rain out so there was no official timed laps but fun none the less. It was also a bad turn out, there were only 2 GT3s. Go figure.

Hi Greg,
If I may, could I suggest to you that it may be beneficial to lower the rear end via the height adjustment bolts, this will improve not only cornering, but will also reduce squat when you punch it coming out of a corner or from a dead start. there looks to be a little too much of a gap between the rear wheel wells and the top of your rear tires, you may wanna go wider ( if possible) to improve side drift/180 type of side torque, I'd suggest a 235 if you can get em, that'd be the minimum I'd run if I had your wheel/shock set up.. good luck and nice car!!
