Post Right rear wheel making Knocking noise *HELP*

Ok my right rear whell is making a knocking noise.. like klank klank klank when i accelerate 5mph or over. It sounds sort of how bad CV joints would sound but with a knocking noise. Is it a Wheel Bearing? or what

mine did the same thing it is probably a loose wheel. Take the wheel off then put it back on and tighten the nuts evenly.

Cool

Check your CV axles for looseness then your bearings. If neither are evident then repack your CV joints and reverse their re-installation (switch sides from trans to arm)

Good luck!

Question

I knew the wheel beerings were bad on the 944 I'm driving. But, I started to here that same knocking a few days ago. Is that a sign of the very end of the bearings??? Planning on bringing it for a 300 mile trip this next weekend and don't want to end up on the side of the road with another tow truck. I've already had my share for this year.

There's another posibility:
Check the gearbox support to the transversal beam above it. On my car (Cup) the gearbox support got some play, and the gearbox started moving in relation to the beam, creating a "clonk" every time the 'box was streessed, which was often (LSD in the 'box). That unwanted moving was enough to fatigue CRACK the beam in three pieces, which was pulling on the rail chassis...
So if it took 40K miles on my (hard used) car, maybe yours is seeing the end too.
Regards, GeorgeK

Why are you guys ruling out the CV's? That would be my first guess.

My CV joint went out recently. Symptoms: clanking from the rear, intensify in volume at WOT, sound only when accellerating between 1-35 mph and decellerating 35-1 mph.

Just get some rebuild kits for your CV joints. 60 some dollars a pop. Swapping them out will only buy you some time and then you have to pay the wrench even more money to put the new ones in.

What about an out-of-round wheel?
