Scratchy front Windshield, Can you do anything about it?

Before I call a glas shop here in Sweden and make a fool out of me, maybe I can get an answer here (And make a less ass out of me )
My front Windshield is quite scratchy which makes it hard to see something when the sun is low. Replacing it costs a fortune if it isnt broken (No, I will not put a hammer on it).
Does any one know if some one can referbish a Windchield, by maybe polishing it/grinding it. Of course by proos. But does there exist something like this?

Good question, I would also like to know. We have guys that will drill a hole and inject a glue into small cracks to minimise the crack appearance and prevent it spreading so perhaps they are the guys to ask.

I have heard of this being done, but i don't know where or how. I wouldn't worry about making a fool of yourself. If you telephone your local auto glaziers and they laugh at you, they won't know who you are so you can hang up the phone!

MOST OF THE MAJOR GLASS COMPANIES WILL POLISH A WINDSHIELD AND A GOOD PORTION OF THEM WILL DO IT REMOTELY. I WORK FOR A DEALER AND WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO STOP IN WEEKLY TO DO IT TO USED CARS. THE BAD PART ABOUT IT IS IS HOW DEEP THE SCRATCH IS AND WHERE IT IS. IF IT IS THE DRIVERS ACUTE AREA IT MAY DISTORT THE VISION..IF ITS NOT TOO BAD AND AT THE EXTREAMS OF THE WIPER TRAVEL IT MAY BE POLISHED... CHECK FOR AUTOMOTIVE GLASS LISTINGS, ITS USALLY THE SAME PEOPLE WHO DO THE CHIP FIX AND THEY TYPICALLY DON'T GAURENTEE THE OUTCOME.

Costs just a hair less than $200 to have someone come out and replace it. Hammer hole or no hammer hole.

Not sure if this helps but, I have heard of used car dealers using newspaper to wash the windshield. Supposed to clear up some of the blemishes.

The eastwood company - sells a glass polishing kit. Seems like it states in the ad everything that has been said here already.

In Sweden, to get the windchield replaced via the insurance, it needs to be "brooken". Just scratches is not enough!
(Thats way I mentioned the hammer!)

A new Windchield cost ~$700-800 replaced without insurance.

Why the big difference in costs between the US and there?

Who? Name names.
RJ Auto Glass 714 292-5811 "Rafino" Newport Beach area. $172.50 a few years ago. Would have to check on current prices. Note; this is the early windshield not the one with the antenna.

Must be for the 85.5 and later windshields. The ones with the antenna and spacers.

Get a quote for an early 924/944
