The dealers know all about this. It's their little secret to gain control over the masses.
My AC has not worked for almost the entire time I've owned the 83 944. Still both fans come on when the temp switch kicks in. Only one fan "idles" when the car is still hot when the key is turned off. My concern was that you wired in another relay and not replaced the AC relay with an improper unit. The early cooling fan circuit is a tricky design. Porsche actually reverses the polarity on part of the circuit to control one or both of the fans. Be thankfull you don't have a later 944 as the large silver relay for the fans and the AC costs over $150 each.

so, you think the solution is to replace the 944.615.113.01 relay? or put two of the same in relay #1 and #2 slots?
