Unhappy Running Problems

Hi this is my first post and the first major problem I have had with my 944 in nearly 2 years of running it.

Anywayz heres the trouble. I was drivin down the motorway the other day and all of a sudden I had a real bad 'juddering' or miss firing mainly whilst accelerating. Got home ok but then the next morning the car was idling v.eractically and then cutting straight out. Had this problem a month or two ago but cleaning the throttle body and twiddling the TPS seemed to fix it.

Anywayz I have now replaced the TPS and the car runs better than ever especialy whilst when changing gear! .......... well it did for half an hour at least!!

Came to a stop after testing the new TPS on the motorway and the engine cut stragiht out. Also whilst drving there was the odd 'judder' as before at random speeds / revs. The car continued to cut out whilst stopping but mainly only from speeds over 50mph as it managed to pick itslef up from slower speeds.

Figured it may be the TPS ajustment so re adjusted it and now the car has stopped cutting out. However especially when colder the car will idle irracticaly and come close to stalling when releasing the clutch and slowing to a stop. There is also still the miss fire style 'judder' when driving, however it now seems to be at the lower rather than higher speeds although still mainly during acceleration.

Ive been reading around the posts and from what ive read it could be quite a few differnet things.

So... I was hopin some of u cleva peps out there might b able to help me out Hmmm quite a long post aint it! Jus wanted to give u all the info I could to help narrow down any possible causes.

Cheers in advance.

Hows the electrical? Are you getting good spark? Maybe your grounds are bad. Cap, rotor and coil?

Edit:
Welcome to the madness!

It sounds to me that your electrics are playing up. I would go around the engine compartment and clean all the electrical contacts that you can see. Just disconnect spray some WD40 and put them back. This will clean the contact which could be the cause of your eratic misfire.

Send a message via ICQ to Zero10
Hmm, almost sounds like speed/reference sensors.

Cheers guys. Thought it may be electrical so will do as suggested as soon as i get the chance. (back off to uni today).

Zero10 u mentioned the speed / reference sensors. Ive read that the connections for these can get corroded/loose and cause problems. I have looked for them but im not sure exactly where im looking. Do u get to them from the top or bottom of the car?.

Also is there any chance the problems could be caused by the Idle valve or o2 sensor?? I have read posts where some of but not all the symptoms have been similar to mine and one of these has been the reason for them.

Thanx again
