Tire Questions

Hey you all. Sorry if this makes me sound like such a newb (which I am) but I got a few questions on tires.

Currently I have the phonedials wrapped in Pirelli P7000 Super Sports front:205/55ZR/16 back:245/50ZR/16.

So here's my question. What is the proper inflation of this tire? I can't find it on the tire itself or the pirelli website so I do not know. The tire was looking kind of low so I took it to the gas station to get some air and when you plug in the air thing it has one of those pressure gaues on it. The tires were at 2-3 psi each. Is that low?

Well I thought it was low so I filled it up to 7 psi each. But now during driving it is a lot harder. The ride is not that much more enjoyable as I thought it would be. What do you reccomend? Thanks.

Alex

?

Stock psi was around 30 but I hear high performance should be closer to 40psi cold.

Are you talking about 2-3BAR?

Hahahah, that's how little I know. I have no idea what it is. But the air filler thing at the gas station has this gauge which pops up when you stick it to the tire stem to show the air pressure. It used to read 2-3 now it's at 7. is there some sort of conversion for bars to psi?

7 Bars in a tire would be pretty funny. If it held.

Yikes...pretty close to canada and the illusive metric system huh?

I would just get a tire guage (always in the glovebox) that measures psi. They run $1-10 depending on how sturdy it is.

You should check your tire pressure often as well. Mine gets it once a month but I am sure some people do every fill up.

Measure the pressure with the tires relatively cold if possible.

I need the same question answered though.

? With the new high performance/lower profile tires what is the recommended psi? A tire tech told me around 40 sound right?

I have roughly the same size Kuhmo's on phonedials on my car. They're brand new, and they say 44 psi, and that's what tire kingdom put in them. But it really SHOULD be on the sidewall of your tire...

You know, I thought that the numbers on the tire were the upper limit pressure and not the normal load pressure. Equally the original recommended pressures for the original equipment tires are noticably different front to rear despite being the same tires on the same size rims.

By the way, numbers like 2-3 or even 7 would make me start looking for punctures and failed seal at the bead.

A quick google turned up:

http://www.drivegreen.com/PressureValue/Porsche.shtml

now that doesn't break it down to 15" vs. 16" wheels but at least it will give you some reasonable numbers to start with. The factory tire inflation pressure sticker should be inside the fuel filler flap I believe (too many cars...)

FYI Porsche said 26FR 36R I believe for tire pressure.

I'd run around 36/8 in front and 40 in back if the max on the tires is 44...
