drivers using cell-phones!!$#$%^

well, as if my on-going troubles with mystery knocking sound was not bad enough, i went to chicago over the long weekend . took my girl friend along, as you never know when you need someone to push you to a service startion!! lol.
bejeesus, 93 octane in downtown is $2.55 !!! what is up with that?? anyhoo, some great clubs in windy city{checked out excaliber until 4am} well, no probs going there. averaging 80mph at 2700rpm on i94.
stopped on the way back, to go to a shop, just of 94 at a place called benton charter township.
fully stopped in left lane, waiting to turn when, bammmmm! jesus h. christ, this young girl, talking on cell phone, runs right into the back of me. just b4 , i had looked in my rear view mirror, and saw this happening, it seemed like slow motion! nice impact, shoved me a couple of feet forward.
ok, count to 10, before getting all bent out of shape. i can live with an accident, but have no time for idiots, who persist in driving while talking on the phone.
i see the damage to her car first-- a 2002 buick le sabre , or something like that. the hood is buckled, the driver door wont open! the headlight/turn sigs area all gone, along with lower front section all stoved in and front bumper/grille all f87ked up!
i turn the corner, and survey the damage, fearing the worst!!
ye gods, only damage visible is a dent right where the rear section becomes the side. its a very strong section there, and seemed to take the brunt of the hit. the plastic "bump" stop is quite rough, and its cracked a little. other than that, its really only cosmetic, although i will be getting the car checked out, to see if anything is bent! i called the police to get a report, and she admitted to the officer that i was stopped in the turn lane, and she ran into the back of me! i think this was her first accident, coz she was all shaking. i did not give her a hard time, but did suggest that she give up talking on the phone because next time, someone may not be so lucky!
anyhoo, after finishing up, drove home at around 80 mph at 2700rpm, no wobbles, or steering probs, car feels just the same. got back ok, round trip 685 miles, and the car did'nt explode or something go wrong.
i know these cars are strong at the back, i'm just glad she did not hit the front, as that is a different story!!
once again, i'm impressed with the durability, and reliability of my car, even with the mystery knock!
what are the odds, that given this shunt, yet another p-car is written off??
i think i must be blessed, or something!
bob.{lucky}

Sorry to hear it, hopefully it won't be totalled out or you can rebuild it.

If not, can I have your parts?

Sorry for the vulture-ness.

Don't know about the states but it's illegal to drive and use a cell phone here in (most of) Europe. The only way to phone while driving is handsfree. Penalties can run up to 150 euro.

Different states have various cell phone laws. Unfortunately, not many states in this area ban the use of them while driving.

Sorry to hear about your car.

hey, its no problem. the dent is only about 3 ins long, and not that deep.i think the plastic bump stop should be inexpensive too, but i will get a couple estimates for the dent, and for fitting the plastic, and checking the car out.
i just cant believe the amount of damage to her car. they will be looking at a new hood/door/front valance /grille/spoiler/headlamps/turn signal etc, and thats only to start with. who says there is no justice!!
from 10 feet away, you would never know that i had been hit. once the dent is repaired, i'm back in business.

I certainly hope you are not talking about the side skirt on the rear bumper. If you are, you will be quite surprised at the cost of that little piece. Best off going to a wrecker's for that one.
If you mean the rubber pads on the bumper, they're pretty reasonable.

Isn't it funny how they build cars these days? Makes me glad I have an 86 car, not a 2002. Can survive little impacts here and there.

I doubt it'll be a write off if you get used parts to fix it, but if you go new..... remember, it's an 84.
I had a little rear-ender, just needs new bumper shocks, 1 new side skirt, and some paint/body work on the driver's quarter panel, or at least that's all it looked like. $2800 CDN for the repairs, and that's one of the lower estimates. Turns out the bumper was twisted, it tore apart the 2 rubber bumpers inside, and it bent the mounts for the bumper shocks.

It always looks better than it is =(

Where I live, female use of cell phones while driving far exceeds male use.

Cell phone abuse law?! The police can barely enforce red light runners and babies doing hand stands in the front seat!

It would be nice if people would refrain from using cell phones while driving, but some people are just plain bored these days and feel a need to talk on their high tech gadgetry. Oh, and take pictures too with their phones while driving, that's cool.

It would be great if all states had anti cell phone/driving laws, but
I just cant see how it could ever be enforced. About 2 months ago I was driving and a car in front of me was swerving back and forth across 2 lanes , I figured it was a drunk. I sped up to pass the SUV, the woman driving was on her phone holding it with her shoulder, her other hand and chin on the steering wheel , while she was looking up at the visor mirror putting on eyeliner!! I rolled down my window and screamed at her that she was gonna kill somebody. Then she give me the finger.

Unfortunately these days people only care about themselves.
