What tells #1 spark plug to fire?
I have the cam sprocket and flywheel lined up by the marks. But what tells no. 1 plug to fire? How does it know not to fire on the exhaust stroke? 1986 944n/a

Does that mean that the flywheel or something connected to the flywheel tells the distributor or does mean that I don't need to worry about it? I will try to start engine tonight. Thanks

The dist. is a purely mechanical device that runs directly off your camshaft. The only way to screw up firing is to plug the spark plug wires into the distributor in the wrong places, ie switch #2 and #4 wires.
