Unhappy Starting problems, wire boot corrosion

Hello, I'm a new member but longtime reader of the forum.

My '83 944 w/ 95, 500 miles was operating perfectly, but on a humid day when I tried to start up it cranked but would not start. I went back to it later in the day, and it started but with a weird sparking sound. After starting it ran normally. Now it refuses to start in all but dry, warm conditions (weird).

Pulled wire caps: cylinder 1 perfect, 2 slight darkening of cap metal and plug cap, 3 gray ashy corrosive look, 4 light colored ashy corrosion. I have relatively knew wires and bosch platinum 4 plugs.

What's up? I suspect I just need new wires and plugs. Anyone know what's up here?

ALSO: I'm about to change the fuel filter and oxygen sensor. Is it as easy as it seems? I'm not very experienced working on cars.

Thanks a lot

Definately get new plugs and wires - new cap and rotor will not hurt either.

Fuel filter and O2 sensor are not difficult - make sure the car is well supported when youare under there

o2 sensor - 22mm

Fuel filter 17 and 19 mm - you will need 2 19mm wrenches.

Don't forget to clamp the fuel lines.

Don't loose the stoffenduffus washer.
