Oil Leak
I have a 1984 944 with high milage. I recently noticed that I have oil leaking on to my exhaust manifold and pipe causing it to smoke every time the car gets warmed up or until it burns off. Can anyone offer up some advise as to where the leak is coming from and is it o.k. to drive the car with this leak? Thank You!!

Check the cam housing and may be leaking from there onto the manifold, where on the exhaust is it leaking onto?? Just keep checking your oil level and make sure you dont start a fire.

It is usually the cam housing gasket or the lower balance shaft rear o-ring.
Buy some degreaser from Wal-Mart and clean the area up completely. (use 2 or 3 cans) After that, you will get a clearer idea where the oil is coming from. AFJuvat

Both of the repairs are moderately difficult. Both the cam housing gasket and the lower balance shaft rear o-ring require the removal of the timing belts.
If you are lucky, it is the gasket on the rear of the cam housing (the gasket between the lifting point and the cam housing. That is a 15 minute fix AFJuvat
