Hi all..have a quick question. I am trying to refill my A/C and want to be sure I use the right valve...we've just moved so I can't find my Haynes manual and look it up.
There is a valve right next to the what looks like a reciver driver on the right side as I open the hood. I am guessing that's the high...having a hard time finding a low....any help would be great, as the car's just sitting there on the jacks with the hood open.... ![]()

another valve is on the compressor itself, and is a PITA to get to....hopefully that's not the low pressure one....

Low side is on the compressor on the early models. Impossible to connect one of those filler cans to, unless you use an adapter.

This question has been raised by many, including myself.
Napa has a 90 degree angle connector and there is a shorter AC belt that allows the compressor to be tensioned at at different angle. I have yet to do mine, but I have the brass 90 degree connector, and I will be getting the belt soon. do a search hope that helps Don

Thanks Don, I'm going to look into the connector (do you have the Napa part number by chance, also, where did you get the shorter belt?
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for the ground wire to the steering rack? mine is chopped off and just about 5 inches is hanging off the rack, I can't seem to find where it connects to or go to the firewall, etc. Pretty tough without my Haynes manual, if I don't find mine in the next couple of days I'll have to buy another one, again...

Short belt:

Most auto parts stores will have the fitting. Imagine that!

It attaches onto the compressor and to the pressure switch, IIRC.

Are you sure we're talking about the same wire? The one I am refering to looks like a brown ground wire attached by a screw to the lower cross member. mine is severed about six inches from the cross member.
FRWilk mentioned in one of his posts that this is the ground for the horn.

well I replied to that one as well, yes that's the horn ground. There is also a brown wire that is for the compressor. I get mixed up now and then.

It comes straight off the rack. The bearings and bushings from the horn pad thru the column, fire wall all the way down to the rack won't allow it to ground. The only connecting (grounding) point is on top of the rack its self, with a similar screw that attaches to the cross memeber. The horn grounds out this way, but don't ask me why.

the connection on my manual rack is near the input shaft on the rack and a little to the right hand side of the car, I think. Give me a hour or so to confirm on the manual rack, yours may very. This wire isn't but maybe 6 inches long.
