Good morning Porsche purest! Got a question? A friend of mine gave me a Chevy 2.8L V6 60 degree engine. I had the unsavory thought of putting this little jewel into my 924. Easier to get parts and performance upgrades a lot cheaper. What do you think! If I get serious where would I get the info to perfrom this task! (engine to bell housing adapter and clutch). Please no swearing this is a serious forum!!
Also I am needing a exhaust manifold for a 1978 924 2.0 the #%%^&^%% popped with out warning! ![]()

I'm sure it can be done, but if you're going to go through all the trouble, why not just do a V8 conversion? Check out the Renegade Hybrids site; they do 'em all the time. Just get a 350 small block Chevy engine - THOSE are cheap and easy to find parts for! Perhaps more so than the 2.8L V6. Gas mileage would be absolutely atrocious, but man, that would be fun!
In the Porsche community, such cars are refered to as "ba$tard children" or "franken-cars", but it's awfully hard to argue with the performance numbers. . . They smoke recent model 911s on a regular basis. Of course I'm basing this on the 944 conversions; don't know too much about 924s going through it, but I imagine it wouldn't be THAT much different. I think the 924s are actually a bit lighter, which might help performance-wise.

Hey, it's your car, it you want a Cummins diesel in it or electric motor, go for it. But in the interest of not reinventing the wheel, Renegade has done most of the research and is a great contact. I'd rather see you put in a non-P motor than part the car.

Anything is possible, given the time and money. Before you start, sit down and work out how much money you have to spend.
1. Are you going to do all the work? 2. If yes, do you have all the tools, space, time and knowledge available? 3. If no, then it's not financially viable. 4. What's the condition of the car now? 5. If good, then it might be worth doing. 6. If not, then drive it until it breaks and dump it. Note that 924 trans are not the strongest and "spirited driving" may break the ring and pinion. Don't forget all the other upgrades you WILL need to do.

Build a sweet 3/4 scale race car with that engine. Cheaper & more fun.
