Rotor Trouble
It's always the little things that get you. Replacing the rotor (inside the distributor) should have been a simple operation. The old one came off without much coaxing. The new one, however, is stuck 1/2 way up the shaft and won't budge at all - on or off. Any ideas before I get a bigger hammer?

Get a bigger hammer. Your more likely to damage the rotor if your lucky and can always get a cheap replacement.

Mine broke after Ilightly tapped it to remove it... I was only able to trace the expensisve Bosch Rotor as a replacement.. the salesperson told me a Bentley uses the same rotor.

Will work for parts

mine came off in many bits but slid right back on with light pressure. Make sure the shaft and insides are clean, but to get it off you could also try to grip the shaft of the rotor and rotate it while you pull off, thats how we finaly were able to get the old one off

A Rotor in the UK cost me £5, I don't know how much you pay for it in the states? Perhaps if it is expensive, try levering it off or heat it with a hairdryer or something to expand it?

misty, most parts that are VeeDub-based (like the 924 rotot, <$10 US) are pretty cheap. When I replaced my CV bolts, the Porsche dealer didn't have many in stock and wanted $5 a bolt for 'em - so I looked up the VW part number and rang around and got them for $2 each or something..
The 944-specific parts are generally more... The 944 rotor is $40 US, or about $100 with the extra bakelite(?) supporting shaft as well. Those are Bosch OEM prices, too, not Porsche dealer prices... Genuine windshields and DME's both list for more than most parts cars sell for.... Bet the 924 is fun to drive in Essex - cheers!

Spuggy, yes she certainly is very much fun and she get's some peculiar looks. We have 'Boy racers' here, that everytime they see it they want to race me... I calmly go about my way!!!! Spuggy, you didn't add your year and model to your signature, I also forgot as I'm a newbie but I done it now. Regards

yea, it's a 944. After much frustration (and a bigger hammer) I just beat it to death, grabbed onto the remaining brass piece with pliers and muscled it off, all the while cursing Bosch for not having better quality control over their tight-tolerance machining standards. The old one once again rests in it's place.
