It all started from the 944

Lets start from the beginning.

I paid $3750 for my early 85 944 ended up having a little over $5k in it, I traded even for a 1993 BMW 740, then I swapped the BMW even for the 94 Corvette

Not to bad I guess. I couldnt find a nice P car swap...So Im still on the search.

Moral of the story...People still love the 944 and are willing to trade for it if they see it and drive it. Your better off trading(swapping) than selling it if you want to upgrade. Youll get more out of it. Your 944 is worth what you think its worth, despite low book values, people still love the 944 cars once they drive them.

Maybe two more tradeds and I can get a ferrari!! (lol, yeah right)

Still on the search for a nice 951

Take a look:

do people really do straight swaps down in the carolinas very often?

Well, I'm happy for you, I guess... although to my biased eyes, a C4 is a step DOWN from a 944 I'm sure plenty would disagree

Thats a nice looking corvette. In our eyes, anything but a nicer 944 is a step down...

I know you can sell the vette and get a nice 951 for the money though. Good luck!

Just a means to an end... Well..youd be suprised how many people will swap you if you both have a car the other might wants. Not just a carolina thing. Youd be suprised if you ask how may are open to the idea.

To get this car..I exhausted Porsche swaps for the BMW. I couldnt find a nice example that was willing to trade. I just started calling ads from the autotrader..I got 3 corvette swap offers for the BMW. They all needed bigger cars, and the C4 was worth about $2000+ more than the BMW. The BMW was worth three times the 944 all according to book values.

For the 944 I went to look at the BMW, and I let the guy drive it while I drove his car. He was mezmorized and immediatly offered a swap.

Dont get me wrong..I still love teh 944 and am still on a search for a nice turbo, in addition to the C4.

But the moral is, I could now sell teh C4 if I wanted to and buy another Porsche, and the upgrade would not cost me a thing.

I started with a 86 Jaguar XJ12 (V-12 sedan) that I bought from a guy for $750 - it was in near mint shape except that he hit a pickeup truck with it and it had some front end damage (looked way worse than it was).

Fixed the jag and got it into 10 / 10 condition, and then traded it back to the guy I bought it from for his mint 87 944 (I payed his tab at the dealer for a new clutch master and slave). This car had had $15k spent on it over the past 2 years on things like a new clutch, 2 timing belts, steering rack... mint car with under 70k miles.

I bought a 77 911 wide body this past summer and sold the 944 to my brother for about what I paid for the 911.

Having done some work and spent some money, my original $750 investment has turned into this car:
