how to install injectors?
Having just broken the tip of one injector, maybe it's time to ask...
After cleaning, they didn't seem to want to push in all at the same time attached to the rail. I then tried to push in #1 by itself; my hand slipped and I broke the plastic tip and the injector retractable tip. With a new injector now on the way I'd like to know what is the proper way to put them in. (Something besides "the reverse of disassembly"). Thanks,

I have heard, and it is also the advice i followed when I replaced the o rings and hats this summer, was first put some automatic transmission fluid on the orings as it will help them slide into the rail and the manifold easier. Not sure why atf as opposed to oil. I put them in the rail first, and then set the rail in place on the intake manifold and just attached the bolts that attach the rail making sure that the injectors line up whith the hole in the manifold as i tightened down the rail.

I replaced mine by first pushing them into the manifold, placing the fuel rail on top of them, tightening the bolts that holds the fuel rail on the top and then pulled them slightly out of the manifold so that I could slip the retaining cilps on the injectors and the fuel rail.
My fuel rail is slightly curved so if I first pressed them into the fuel rail and then into the manifold then the two middle one did not go far enough into the manifold.

When I re-installed mine, after much head scratching, I decided to use some ATF on the O-Rings, as per the instructions of a Rennlister, then installed them in the manifold. With ATF on the O-Rings, they actually went in pretty easy, I was able to get them all the way in by hand. Then I pressed the fuel rail on by hand (very careful here, if you push crooked, you will risk damaging the injectors), and once it was pretty well seated, I tightened the bolts down to hold it in place.
I have no idea how the clips go on. So mine aren't on correctly, I just slid them onto the fuel injectors to keep from losing them, lol. No leaks yet =)

Thanks for the advice. These were so hard to push in it seemed they would bend or distort the rail. I'll get some ATX to use when the new one arrives.
(meanwhile driving the 2CV)

The retaining clips are pretty important - the upper section clips on the fuel rail, the lower section to the injector - it holds them in place and will prevent them from dislodging from the fuel rail - this is possible as the injectors can be inserted deeper in the manifold - pulling them from the fuel rail at the top.
