Question Central Locking?

I have Central Locking. I know this because I have a button beneath my radio that my manual identifies as a Central Locking switch.

The red light in the button always stays on. I hit the button, nothing happen. I hit the button, then use my key to lock the driver's door, the passenger door does not lock.

Can someone explain how the system is supposed to work?

Mine is the same way. I have to reach over and lock the passenger side and use my key to lock my door. Kind of a PITA but I got used to it.

I believe all cars were fully wired for all options. Now if the options were installed or not is a different Issue.

No the lock the drivers door with a key is a feature so you cant lock your keys inside the car, unless you somehow manaage to leave them in the trunk, after you haev locked the doors

This is how the system is supposed to function:

The switch only moves 1 direction. You push the same side to lock and unlock. The side that you can push down is the opposite side as the red light. the red light should be toward the front of the car, push down on the side toward the back of the car. The red light is supposed to mean that central locking is engaged via this switch. I don't think the red light is supposed to be on when the doors are locked with they key, but i'm not sure about that one. Pushing the button again should unlock, and turn off the red light. Locking and unlocking the driver's door with the key should lock and unlock both doors.

I've never looked at the wiring diagram for the central locking, because mine works correctly. You'll have to study that to figure out what might be wrong with it. Sounds like it might possibly be a stuck relay, or the console switch might be bad.

does this mean that if you DON'T have to use the key to lock the door the lock is installed upside down??
