Looking for a shift knob
Hey everyone.
The shift knob on my '88 924S has seen better days, and so I have been looking on the internet for a replacement knob. I noticed that the knob and boot are one piece, which limits my options.... or maybe i can buy a knob and sepertate boot ? I am trying to get opinions from anyone who has replaced their knob and hopefully some links to any online stores that carry them. I would like to find something cheaper than what pelican has to offer for $80. ~Thanks~ |

You can buy a nob and seperate boot, you pull out the insert that has the shift pattern on it and 'stuff' the leather in it. For more money you can buy one already done.

A bunch of places (including Pelican) sell the leather boots. - you CAREFULLY remove the shift pattern insert (it is NOT available as a seperate piece), then cut the old leather off.
Use saddle soap or leather conditioner to soften the leather on the new boot and slide it on. You tuck the excess leather under where the shift pattern insert goes, then drive in hte insert. Takes about 10 - 15 minutes AFJuvat

shift boot replacement is fairly easy... it is a tight fit, so a majority of the time will be spent pulling it on

Use the saddle soap to lube it for sure as you pull the leather on. It takes some fighting but it'll save you the money.

Does anyone here know if the knob from a 996 or any other newer Porsche would fit onto a 924/944 without any modifications?
