				944 (924S) Engine Rebuild help

My 924S has 112k miles on it and has never been rebuilt. I plan to rebuild it and do a few performance mods on it while I have it out this summer. BTW I will have a budget of around 2200-2500 I have a few questions though: 1. Having never rebuilt an engine before, how hard should it be? I have a garage with a lot of space and most of the tools...also I have my 50 yr old father and can consult my 80 yr old grandfather on the phone (he was an auto mechanic his whole life)? 2. Are there any performance upgrades I could afford while rebuilding my motor? 3. I am also going to do the water pump/belt kit mainatanance while I am in there...it only has 1 yr left until it is needed again. Is this a good idea, or should I wait? Thanks for any help!

I am in Newark, DE and found this 944 2.5 L engine in Wilmington (about 10 miles away) I can get it for around $400 is this a good deal...so that if I mess up on this motor, I still have a motor in my 924S as it is my daily driver. Description: This engine was pulled from a 1984 porsche 944 non-turbo with a five speed. The vehicle was involved in an interior fire originating from faulty wiring of a newly-installed radio. The fire did not damage the engine compartment in any way. The car was purchased as a parts car for swapping in a five-speed transaxle into an automatic 944. The vehicle had approximately 105k miles on it. The previous owner claimed to have had the headgasket replaced, and oversized valves installed not long before the fire. email with any further questions you may have. No warranty, item sold "as is". Buyer pays shipping, will deliver within 100 miles for $.75 per mile. happy bidding

Well, first do a search because Im sure this has all been covered before, I have rebuilt my 924S enigne once before and I will be doing it again this winter/spring. Its really not that hard to do, Just make sure you have a technical book on specs and torque values, make sure you get a full gasket set, new bearings, new rings, new OPRV. Alos MAke sure everyhting is CLEAN. Also make sure your timming is correct on both the balance shaft belt and crank cam belt. Take your time and triple check everyhting. Im beting you will be spending approx $1,500 on the rebuild, If your looking to do performance stuff and you only have about 1,000 left after the rebuild, You might be able to do some mild head work, Im sure you could also get a nice chip and a cam to put in. It all depends On want you want from the engine. Have you ever rebuilt any engines or done any work on your car????

What makes you think you have to rebuild it? Most engines will go at least 200k miles.
