weird blauplunkt tape player problem...
I have a 1989 944S2 an the original tape player is still in it. anyhow, I took it to a Porsche dealer in Ohio on the way back after I bought the car, to ask them to take a look at it. They didn't want to take it out because they said it would be very hard to get code for the player. From what I see, it plays tapes fine, but once you put one in, it will not eject. It just like rises up and then gets caught, then it goes back down. But when you press the eject button, the radio will play briefly, in the time frame of when the tape rises like it will eject, to when it comes back down.

They are probably correct on the radio code, if that radio even had one?!?!
Chances are it's merely just a belt inside the radio that is stretched out and needs replaced(most of the belts should need replacement by now anyways). But with any repair of a radio this old, it's generally cheaper to just replace the radio as a whole, than to repair it. Besides, how 'attached' are you to your tapes, it might be time to go with a CD player ![]()

I'd just get a cd/mp3 player and junk the tape deck. You can probably replace the belts yourself, if you feel inclined to keep it, but finding the correct size belt can be a treat. It will definatly cost you more to have someone repair it, then to replace it with an aftermarket one.

If you get rid of the original radio, drop me a message. I'd like to have one of the originals

anything off the shelf should fit Do you have one of the equalizers that mount underneath the tape player? You could keep that, or replace it with a pocket for cds, etc..
I bought a Panasonic CD/CD-R/CD-RW MP3/WMA player... Cost about $160. 40 watts rms... nicely powered for the price. Took about 1/2 hr. to rip out the old one, match up and splice the wires.

if it's the old Reno unit, there should be no need for a code. you could get it repaired by a reputable electronics shop, but the cost would exceed that of a good new CD player. if you do want to make the change and want to stick with Blaupunkt let me know, as I can get you a good price on a big selection of models from Blaupunkt. I even have access to factory refurbs of older models if you prefer

What is this "tape player" you speak of and what does it do?
