Need Last Minute Help!!!

I just changed my front pads and now my pedal is very spoungy. My uncle helped me and he looked under the car while I pumped the brake pedal and no fluid was leaking. At one point I did open the reseviour to try to releave presure and forgot it was open when I first pumped the pedal. Could that have let air in the system?

I need these brakes working by tomorrow so I can make it to Effingham. PLEASE HELP!

Air.

You don't need to open the bleeder on the cylinders to retract the pistion. A large screwdrive used as a lever can coax the piston back.

You need to bleed them.

When was the last time you changed your timing and balance belts and/or cam chain and tensioner?

Ok thanks, but jw how did air get in the system? I didn't open the bleeders, just the brake fluid tank in the engine bay

go out and drive the car to seat the pads against the rotors. Fresh pads on rotors will give you a spongy feeling until they conform to the shape of the rotors. I usually do a 20 mile loop which includes lots of braking and near the end I do a couple high speed threshold braking stops just to make sure.

bleed the system just to be sure. In autocross, they require a brake bleed before each event.

I would love to but I have a graduation party to go to. I thought about skipping out but there is no way to make it happen.
I am going to 944Fest on July 16th. Are you?

Speedy

Question

just taking the cap off isn't/wasn't the problem unless the brake fluid got too low in the reservoir, you'll have air in the system.

when i do pads, i pump the pedal a few times so the pistons are where they should be in relation to the rotor and the pedal should be firm not spongy.

the spongy feel won't go away by driving/seating the pads to the rotor.

Actually seating the pads did make the spongy go away
