window tinting on a 944 - comments?
I'm considering getting just the driver's and passenger's windows
tinted to stop cooking myself in the sun... Anyone had this done and have any opinions on the matter? What about tricks for keeping things from baking in the "trunk" ?

I have a 15% tint on my VW, and it's good, but on my 944, I'm goign to do a 35% tint. The 15 is sometimes hard to see at night. It looks good, but I just want something to keep the seats from fading and the carpet from fading in the rear.

I have 18% all the way around and it works great on black on black. The guy even did my rear glass with one piece of tint!

wow aribop... mind if I ask what the approximate bill was for that job? I was told rear tint would cost a fortune because it was so big...

be careful of city/county/state ordinances. too dark will get you a ticket.

my estimates have been rolling in over $350 with the hatch,
the places I've called said they'd have to do it in strips and cut around the defroster lines.... some places wouldn't even do it, said it wasn't worth their time and frustration. for just the side windows it varies wildly, from about $115-200+depending on the film, whether it's metallic or not, etc.

THere's a place here that said it'd be the same as any other hatch (the said corvette rear windows are a lot worse) and he'd charge $175 with my returning customer discount.
He was actually in a wolrdwide window tinting contest about 2 months back and I trust him - did a great job on the VW.

I had mine done a while ago. It cost about $350 for the doors, side windows and rear hatch. The hatch was done in one piece and looks great.
The guy never did a 944 before, and said he would never do one again after it took him all day just to do the rear hatch. ![]()

Somewhere along the line a PO tinted the car. Looks like a professional job, rear hatch is individual strips between the defroster elements.
As far as things baking in the trunk, you could always pull back the luggage cover if you have one, or, like I try and do, just park in the shade ![]()

I had the tint done on my old 944, was $150 for the hatch and two quarter windows, was a single peice of tint laser cut for proper fitment, was perfect, except for a slight unevenness around the seal near the wiper.

Ahh, the woes of the 944 back hatch...
Had mine tinted and resealed, new hatch struts, and seal. finally it was a water free environment.....until a hatch pin failed (corroded). Should be fine again when the part arrives Monday.
